Schools: Governor hearings for bully victims

The children's commissioner for England Al Aynsley-Green has called for a radical overhaul of the way schools deal with bullying, including the setting up of an external and independent complaints panel.

The commissioner's review of the bullying complaints system, launchedthis week to coincide with Anti-Bullying Week, also recommends givingall parents the right to a hearing before governors, and extending therole of the Local Government Ombudsman to consider cases.

Aynsley-Green says the review is vital since the current system "doesnot address bullying incidents in a fair, just or effective way".
