The new initiatives are revealed in a letter to local authority chiefexecutives from Peter Housden, director general for schools at theDepartment for Education and Skills.
It reads: "The Government is determined to transform the quality of foodand drink provision in schools. The purpose of this letter is to alertyou to our hope that local authorities will lead thistransformation."
The letter asks every local authority to develop its own "tailoredchange programme".
