Scheme to bridge school-uni gap

Education Youth Work
A scheme to help young people in their transition from school to university will be launched in Sheffield this autumn.

Academics from the city's university will spend time visiting local schools and expanding their outreach activities. By helping teachers and lecturers learn what is happening on the other side, the scheme aims to bridge the gap for students.

Will Davey, head of chemistry at King Edward VII School in Sheffield, has been appointed teaching fellow at the university as part of the scheme, which is organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

"I hope to bring back to the school not only improved links, but improved knowledge of what admission tutors look for," said Davey.
