
The apprenticeship pathfinder project, which is being funded by theNational Apprenticeship Service (NAS), will see young people inHertfordshire, Manchester and South Tyneside gain access to theapprenticeship entitlement before it becomes a statutoryrequirement.
Bethia McNeil, project manager of the initiative, told CYP Now thescheme would identify how the apprenticeship entitlement will work onthe ground. It will bring together agencies in each of the threelocalities to increase both demand for apprenticeships and places withemployers, she said.
"We'll work directly with teachers to look at their understanding ofapprenticeships and with local authorities to look at how theiremployment of apprentices can help. We'll also be working withConnexions and careers advisers to look at how information, advice andguidance can raise awareness. Parents will have the chance to attendopen days and seminars and receive information packs to help raise theprofile of apprenticeships," she said.
