SAFETY: Young drivers say they are unsafe

Four in five of the 500 young drivers interviewed admitted they felt a danger to others, with three quarters saying they are a risk to pedestrians.

About 12 per cent said they had already been in a major road collision, while more than half (51 per cent) had speeded.

Young people interviewed for the report, called Steer Clear and commissioned by windscreen firm Autoglass, said that driving lessons and test should include motorway driving.

The report reveals learner drivers only drive the equivalent of two round trips between London and Birmingham before passing their test. Two in five said they had less than five hours practice without their instructor.
