OPINION: Hot Issue - Should teenage drivers be electronicallymonitored?

3 mins read

YES - Andrew Howard, head of road safety, AA

Lorry drivers have black boxes in their cabs and some companies are making drivers of company cars have them.

If the driver of a company car objects they can always change employer.

When it comes to young drivers, if their mum or dad is paying for the car or lending them a vehicle, I see no reason why they should not insist on the installation of a black box.

I'm against any compulsory electronic monitoring of teenage drivers, but if parents want to protect their children, I see no reason why they should not have that right. After all, the accident rate for young drivers is up to four times the average.
