Safe havens open for fearful youth

1 min read Youth Justice
Young people in fear of crime can seek refuge in "safe havens" that are being set up by Enfield Council.

The scheme will cover 40 locations across the London borough including businesses, police stations, shops and libraries. It aims to help children and young people who may become scared while out.

Designated as Community Help Points, the sites are designed to provide safe havens for young people who feel threatened or need help and will display a distinctive sign. Each haven has trained people able to calm a frightened young person, make a phone call or summon other help.

Staff working at businesses in the scheme have received full training and had Criminal Records Bureau checks.

Borough commander Adrian Hanstock said: "For all young people this is good news. There is no need for them to feel threatened now that this network of locations has been established.
