
They are looked at suspiciously by their own friends, who question why they are in care. I know a young person in care who was frequently bullied by her classmates. This went on for a few months and she continuously had to defend herself.
Now imagine that you are a young person in care who is also an asylum seeker. Asylum seekers are often labelled as people who abuse the system and who should not be here.
I am an asylum seeker. It is something I have hidden until today. Why? Because I do not want to be seen as a thorn among roses, I don't want to be a label. I strive to be the best, and I aspire to reach my full aspirations. All these negative perceptions are unhelpful to me and other young people when we are trying our best.
