Rural Youth: Council helps teens into employment

The Youth Pathways into Employment initiative prepares 16- to 20-year-olds to work for local authorities. The 12-month traineeships were targeted at low academic achievers, ethnic minorities and socially excluded young people.

Out of the 65 trainees who took part, 90 per cent gained NVQ Level 2 qualifications and 92 per cent found work in local authority departments.

Lee Harper, project manager, said: "Without support, these young people would have found it difficult to find work."
