Rural network loses out on money

1 min read Youth Work
A support network for rural youth work is facing an uncertain future after the government declined to give it a cash lifeline.

The Rural Youth Network has been largely reliant on funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) up until now. But the organisation was dealt a blow when it lost out on funds from the DCSF's £31m Children, Young People and Families Grant Programme (CYP Now, 20-26 February).

Bill Niblo, treasurer of the Rural Youth Network, said although the DCSF's decision was a disappointment, the network had some cash reserves and would be examining alternative funding options.

"It would be wrong to say it wasn't a blow to us because it was," he said. "But we're committed to keeping the organisation going. Through our reserves and our ideas about how to access other funding, we will be pursuing this issue over the next couple of months."
