Respect Action Plan: Family support network to launch

A 28m network of family support services is to be created in England and Wales as part of the Government's respect plans.

Last week's Respect Action Plan sets out the Government's intention todevelop intensive support services for families as part of its latestdrive to reduce anti-social behaviour.

The Government says that the services will work with all family membersand link into schemes designed to get people into work.

Each family involved with the service will have a lead worker who willuse a mixture of support and sanctions to encourage the family membersto change their behaviour.

In addition to the start-up cash of 28m, the Government intendsto use local area agreements to require local authorities to fund suchservices longer term.

Joyce Moseley, chief executive of youth charity Rainer, said: "Drawingtogether employment, health and other services could have a dramaticimpact, particularly if it is building upon projects that are alreadyworking."
