Antisocial behaviour: Government calls for family support network

The schemes will provide high levels of support for "problem families" responsible for anti-social behaviour in their communities. A large proportion of these families are expected to include young people.

Although the Government has expressed its support for intensive family support (YPN, 5-11 October 2005, p2), the timescale for the proposal has surprised some commentators.

One model it is keen on is children's charity NCH's families projects, which work in eight areas of England and Scotland. Hugh Thornbery, NCH's director for children's services West Midlands, welcomed the news, but said: "Our experience does not necessarily fit with the Government's desire to roll this out in a short period."
