1 min read
Labour's Respect Action Plan combines new initiatives with policies already announced, many of them in the Youth Matters green paper published last year.

There will be a requirement on local authorities to improve theplanning, commissioning and funding of parenting services. For example, the Government will publish guidance stating that it expects directorsof children's services to commission parent and family support servicesthat respond to local need.

The Government wants all local authorities to appoint a "senior parents'champion" to co-ordinate work across agencies.

A network of intensive family support schemes to target challengingfamilies will be set up.

A cross-government strategy on how to deal with the most challengingfamilies will be developed. The Government is also considering sanctionsfor households evicted for anti-social behaviour who refuse help.

Twenty million pounds will be spent on piloting a new school-basedoutreach role - parent school advisors - to intervene early insupporting children and families.
