Do young people think keeping schools open at the beginning and end of the school day is a good idea? Talk about what benefits there are for young people. What about the extra convenience for working parents? Whose interests does the scheme serve most?

The Government has said that by 2010 all under-14s should have access to "exciting activities" from 8am to 6pm. Education Secretary Ruth Kelly says young people should have the opportunity to keep fit, acquire new skills, build on what they learn during the school day and "have fun".
