Some people love them because they are fast, cheap and clean. Whereas some hate them because of concerns about the environment, nutrition and working conditions. These are the ways the debate is often polarised.

Ask young people for a more balanced judgment.

Companies such as McDonald's work hard to create brand preference and loyalty among children. That is because they realise children have a lot of influence on what their parents buy. Is there anything wrong in this?

Should children be protected from direct advertising?

One retired fast-food executive has said that "McDonald's is in some ways a toy company, not a food company". It sells or gives away more than 1.5 billion toys every year with its meals. Does it matter that so many children want to go for a Happy Meal just to get another plastic toy to play with?
