Some people oppose all abortion, often for religious reasons. They are known as pro-life. Others, who stress a woman's right to choose, tend to be called pro-choice. Is this division helpful? Is there a middle way: can someone be pro-life and pro-choice? Talk about the pressures to belong to the "never right" or "always acceptable" side.

An abortion is legal in Britain for a pregnancy up to 24 weeks if two doctors agree that there is a risk of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman or any of her existing children. Another reason is if the child would be seriously handicapped. Before this law, it was illegal to carry out abortions.
