Some people think cohabiting, or living together, gives couples the same rights as married partners. It doesn't.

Marriage isn't just about love, vows and public commitment. It gives a special legal status. Married couples can share property, inherit, be included in pensions and claim social security benefits.

Legal rights and responsibilities - how important do young people think they are? Is there any reason why same-sex couples should be denied them?

Same-sex couples cannot get married, so some gay people have lost their homes following the death of their partner. And others have been denied a pension that they would have been entitled to had they been heterosexual.
