"Bad Will Hunting" was the headline in the Mirror. Is this fair? The paper quoted an animal rights activist labelling the killing of the small deer with a large spear as "so cruel". Do young people agree? Is it cruel to kill animals for sport? Or are some people too sentimental?
The animal William killed was a dik-dik, a small antelope not much bigger than a hare. Small bones from its legs and feet are used in traditional jewellery. What would young people think of wearing such jewellery? Would they carry a rabbit's foot as a good luck charm?
Prince William's participation in blood sports first caused controversy when he shot a stag in Scotland when he was 14. His father, Prince Charles, is a keen supporter of fox-hunting. Talk about the traditional connections that monarchs have with hunting.
