Booker offers useful guidance on identifying signs of aggression before they manifest themselves into assaults, either verbal or physical, and offers various strategies for dealing with yourself and others who show signs of aggression. Booker suggests it is not just about being able to recognise signs of aggression in others but is also about self-awareness.
The book draws on a variety of sources of statistical information, including the British Crime Survey 1992, which identified that 13 per cent of all assaults occur in the workplace. Booker does not accept that assaults are inevitable, but rather takes the view that a variety of strategies can be used to reduce or negate levels of aggression. His starting point is that aggression, especially in a workplace, is a response to an event or series of events that are occurring or have occurred in the past and have not been dealt with.
