There are some really vital messages that practitioners and policymakers need to heed. Of particular note is that nine out of 10 of thoseadopted were under the age of five years and that young people over 14were likely to move on to independent living. Only 17 per cent of theresearch cohort had returned to their family of origin, and as few as 10per cent of young people aged over 18 remained living with their fosterfamilies.
