Despite some redeeming features, this book really didn't work for me. Admittedly, I am wary of titles carrying "soft sell" promises and I distrust a style in which the author is presented as the fountain of wisdom and common sense at the expense of other colleagues. However, the fundamental problems were of substance rather than style.

The author is a therapist in private practice in the US and many of the snapshots of therapy with adolescents and their families do not travel well across the Atlantic. "Frannie was one month away from her 17th birthday.
