The book covers: personal and learning skills; curriculum issues throughto age eight, including language, literacy and information technology;special needs; child protection; and health.
Since it is pitched at further education, foundation degree and firstyear undergraduate level, the discussions in the book are verystraightforward and basic but the authors assume some practical skillsand knowledge.
And because it is mainly aimed at foundation degree students, educationissues are more strongly represented than other topics.
This book would be less appropriate for use at a more advanced levelsince there are deliberately simplified accounts of many issues. Forexample, it does not discuss doing research or, perhaps moreimportantly, evaluating research. "Evidence-based policy" is a bit of acatchword these days.
