1 The relatively few numbers of rough sleepers are only the visible tip of a large homelessness iceberg. Young people are homeless if they have no place to live or are in temporary accommodation such as a hostel, bed and breakfast or squat. The accepted definition includes those staying temporarily with friends or relatives. An estimated one in five young people experience homelessness at some time.

2 Many young people aspire to have a flat of their own, working in a town or city, surrounded by friends and with a regular social life. You don't have to puncture anyone's dreams - just deal with the city bright lights thing honestly. Help young people focus on the reality, which is money, budgeting and the location and condition of affordable accommodation.
