Resources: Project notes - What it is: Argie Bargie, FairbridgeCymru

1 min read

Funding: The project has been funded out of a 1.4m independent living skills grant given by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Imagine you're having a blazing row with someone and you've had enough.

You don't think you can even look at them any more. Now imagine that you can't storm away. Imagine that you're stuck there, and your only option is to sit down and sort it out - because you're on an 80ft barge.

This is the philosophy behind Argie Bargie, a project set up by Fairbridge Cymru. The project involves a group of 10 young men, aged 13 to 25 years old, spending five days planning activities, as well as identifying personal anger triggers and aspects of their lives that might be problematic, such as fighting and binge drinking. They then spend five days on a barge discussing their personal problems, examining violence on TV and in video games, and discussing coping mechanisms to help them calm down when the "red mist descends".
