Goals: To promote community cohesion through positive rap lyrics

Funding: About 1,000 from Sheffield City Council's Objective One funding stream for community cohesion via the council's Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Insulting each other using rap lyrics seems to have become a favourite pastime for some young people in Sheffield. But it can go too far, according to Abid Rahim, senior youth worker at Sheffield Futures, which runs the youth service and Connexions for Sheffield City Council.

"We hear young people using rap with offensive lyrics, which can start as a bit of fun but can quickly escalate," says Rahim. "There is a trend in the States that some rap bands insult each other with their lyrics, which does impact on young people."
