Goals: To engage young people from black and Asian communities in citizenship programmes

Funding: The pilot project was funded with 25,000 from housing provider Metropolitan Home Ownership

Young people are often perceived to be uninterested in politics or democracy and generally less than 40 per cent vote at general elections.

Disengagement from society is especially rife among socially excluded young people. Those from ethnic minority communities are least likely to be on the electoral register.

Since January, the Faith Regen Foundation has been delivering its U R Britain project, to help black and minority ethnic young people build their knowledge of the democratic process and their social responsibilities.
