What it is: Richmondshire Area Motorcycle Project (Ramp)
Goals: To raise awareness of basic road safety in young people
Funding: £4,000 for one year from the Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership
Off-road mini-motorbikes have been causing havoc across the country with young people riding them illegally on pavements and roads.
The petrol-driven mini-motos, which have 39cc engines and can reach 60mph, are also a problem for lorry drivers who are unable to see young bikers on the road. Two young people in Yorkshire have been killed in collisions this year.
In response to this, an initiative to encourage young people to learn about road safety and experience the thrill of riding a motorbike in a safe environment was launched earlier this year by the Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership in North Yorkshire.
