Goals: To engage young people through angling
Funding: About 9,000 from sources including: Positive Activities for Young People, Connexions Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, the Environment Agency, Dorset Youth Opportunity Fund, and Christchurch Borough Council
Angling is often seen as a pastime for older people, but young people in Dorset have found that it can be enjoyable too.
Set up by Neil Sanger, personal adviser at Connexions Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, the Wessex Angling Scheme has been working in partnership with the Royalty Fishery and the Ringwood and District Anglers Association.
About 80 young people have taken part since last April. They are referred from a range of sources including Connexions, youth offending teams, Dorset Youth and Community Service, crime reduction networks and police.
