Funding: 22,000 from Arts Council England, London Borough of Hackney and the Association of Local Government
The Hackney Empire has developed a close relationship with the local community in east London and regularly features talented Black and minority ethnic performers and comedians.
Since 2000, the Empire has had an educational arm, which finds and develops talented local performers aged between 13 and 17.
The Artist Development Programme (ADP), which is usually held for a week in October, ran its first two-week summer programme this year, in response to demand from young people who wanted a longer scheme in the holidays.
