2. What is the minimum age for a babysitter? Again, nothing in law, though the logic of the NSPCC advice might suggest 13. But parents may be held responsible for what happens in their absence. If a child is injured in the care of a babysitter under 16, the parent could be regarded as negligent.
3. Parents are not directly responsible in law for the acts, criminal and otherwise, of their children. There is, though, a growing desire to make parents more aware of what they can do to influence their children. Under legally enforced parenting orders, parents of some child offenders can be required to attend counselling or guidance sessions. They may also have other conditions imposed such as making sure their child does not visit a particular place unsupervised or is at home at certain times. Parents can be fined for failing to fulfil the conditions.
