The Early Childhood Unit at the National Children's Bureau has produced three new resource guides aimed at people working with vulnerable young children. Funded by the DfES, the guides focus on working with children from minority ethnic groups, children who have special needs or disabilities, and parents of children under three. They list sources of information on the specific themes and general information about working with very young children.

This guide from Scope, the organisation for people with cerebral palsy, explains to parents of disabled children how they can make use of direct payments, which allow families to receive money instead of social services to meet their needs. The guide covers topics including what direct payments can be used for, how to employ someone like a nanny, and how much money families can receive. It also features a section containing useful contacts.
