1 min read
What it is: The Landfill Tax Credit Scheme gives landfill operators a 90 per cent tax credit against any direct donations they make to environmental bodies. A wide range of organisations may register as an environmental body, from national organisations to community councils and sports clubs.

How much is on offer: As funds are distributed by local landfilloperators there are no general funding brackets.

What it will fund: In order to comply with tax regulations, theactivities funded must have specific aims including: reclaiming land;reducing or preventing pollution on land; providing or maintainingpublic amenities or parks within 10 miles of a landfill site; anddelivering biodiversity conservation for UK species habitats.

Who can apply: Grants are given to environmental bodies andorganisations can register as one with Entrust for a fee of 100(www.entrust.org.uk).

Alternatively, projects can approach a distributive environmental body, which passes grants onto local schemes. However, any organisation thatapplies for funding must be non-profit-making and must not be controlledby either a local authority or landfill operator who is registered forlandfill tax.
