What does it support: It is keen to support applications that educate people about the rural environment. Youth arts projects are another priority, particularly where linked to schools and the National Curriculum. Money may go towards salaries but the trust expects to be a part-funder of a project and it only makes awards for one year. It will not support building or refurbishment work, overseas projects or sports and recreational projects.
Who can apply? Charities and not-for-profit groups, but not individuals or agricultural colleges. Support for wildlife and farming groups is restricted to the counties of Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Dorset where the trust holds land. Some 45 grants were made under the youth category last year, including 1,500 to Croydon Youth Development Trust's Beat the Streets Plus initiative to encourage disengaged young people back into education.
