The Trust, founded by the philanthropist Ernest Cook in 1952, aims to encourage children and young people to learn from the land through hands-on educational opportunities on its estates and by offering grants. The trust distributes around £1.8m in grants each year.
How much is available?
The trust has a small grants programme, and a large grants programme. Small grants are for between £1,000 and £4,000. Large grant awards are usually between £4,000 to £10,000.
What will it pay for?
The small grants programme supports state schools and small registered charities that would like to undertake projects that meet the trust's objectives and require a small amount of pump-priming in order for them to take place. The large grants programme is aimed at more comprehensive education programmes that may require support for the salary of an education officer. In the past, the large grants programme has funded projects linked to theatres, art galleries and orchestras as well as environmental and countryside projects.
