The trust raises money through events such as a forthcoming cricket match at Headingley on 15 July between an Emmerdale team and Chris Tarrant's celebrity team representing the Lord's Taverners. Patrons include Michael Parkinson, Sir Bobby Robson and John Major.
What will it fund? There is no specific guidance, but grants are designed to help impoverished young people access sport or fulfil their sporting ambitions. The application form requires applicants to detail which sport they are involved in, why they want the money and how it would assist them in their chosen sport. Grants are paid in advance but receipts for expenditure will be required. Recent grants have included 1,000 for new skates and travel to competitive events for promising ice-skater Lesley Murphy, while 14-year-old Lewis Twist from St Helens was presented with a full set of cricket whites and equipment.
