As the title suggests, there was no separation for Montagu between her work and her personal values. Her club was founded as an aspect of her religious commitment and her concern for the wellbeing of her community in a period of Jewish immigration. In the work she addressed a wide range of social questions, but her initial interest focused upon the employment conditions endured by Jewish girls. Over time, as work and social conditions changed, Montagu's club work broadened from youth work into settlement work and from girls' work into family, intergenerational and mixed youth club work. This book charts changes of fashion within youth and community work.
