Summary

Researchers' findings were presented at the British Educational Research Association last month. They analysed data from a survey of 412 pupils in year eight (aged 12 and 13) and 436 pupils in year 10 (aged 14 and 15), educated in secondary schools across Wales.

The study found most young adolescents aged 12 to 13 and older adolescents aged 14 to 15 go to bed between 10pm and 11pm. Only 22.7 per cent of young adolescents and just 5.2 per cent of older adolescents go to bed before 10pm, but a significant proportion of older adolescents - 28 per cent - said they went to bed around or after midnight.
