Home Secretary Jacqui Smith last week launched the Redditch Wheels project, a Barnardo's initiative to help young people work towards the Institute of the Motor Industry's qualifications. The 190,000 project offers underachieving secondary school pupils the chance to gain recognised qualifications and personal support. Barnardo's has run a similar project in Stourbridge for 10 years. Sam Monaghan, Midlands regional director, said: "93 per cent of those who attend the Stourbridge project have gone on to education, training or work."
