Quick March Soldiers provide activities for young people at risk

Young people from Hackney who are at risk of committing crime have been taking part in activity days run by the local police and the Army.

A group of 30 young people, aged 13 to 21, have been on the personal development courses, which are run by serving soldiers at the Woolwich Army Barracks.

The courses are designed to encourage a sense of civic responsibility in the young people. Activities include an assault course and a night of camping.

The young people come from local youth clubs and were chosen by youth workers who felt they would benefit from the scheme. Police officers from the Chatham Safer Neighbourhood Team worked with the Army to set up the project.
