What does Nice stand for again? The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. Although established by the government in 1999, it is independent of government and is responsible for producing guidance for England "on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health". That guidance covers three areas: public health, health technologies and clinical practice.
Does it have anything to do with the National Service Frameworks? Yes. As Nice describes it, guidance on public health interventions is meant to support and update the preventive aspects of a National Service Framework (NSF). For instance, one of its current consultations is on promoting social and emotional wellbeing in secondary education, which links to the NSF for Children, Young People and Maternity Services as well as the NSF for Mental Health. It is also consulting on dozens of other documents.
