Goals: To run a free and confidential helpline for children of alcoholics and those concerned for their welfare
Funding: 50,000 from the Community Fund, 30,000 from Comic Relief, 10,000 from the Pilgrim Trust, 7,000 from Lloyds TSB and 2,000 from the Cooper Gay Charitable Trust
Most young people living with an alcoholic parent will try to hide the problem from the outside world, so having someone listen to their experiences is very important. The National Association for Children of Alcoholics' helpline and email service provides the anonymity and safety needed by those who may be afraid to ask for help.
The charity offers support to children of alcoholics, their families and friends, as well as professionals. It also works to raise the profile of children of alcoholics in the public consciousness.
