Making young people aware of the dangers of sex can be tricky. Shock tactics can work for some, but the message doesn't always get through, while classroom-style discussions can leave many young people feeling bored.
In Blyth, Northumberland, a group of young people at the local youth drop-in centre has set up a theatre company to raise awareness of issues surrounding sex among their peer group. Jessica Hare, project worker at The Point, says the initial idea for the group came after attending a local adult community play. "When I spoke to young people at the centre about the show, they were really enthusiastic about doing something similar on sexual health," she says. "But they wanted to use young people as actors and talk about the problems they face."
