Goals: To enable young women aged 11 to 30 to overcome discrimination and disadvantage

Funding: Receives core funding from the YWCA as well as financial support from a mixture of statutory grants and trusts

With its rolling countryside and picturesque villages, Kent isn't normally associated with social deprivation. But life can be far from rosy for some young people in the Garden of England.

Set up in 1997, YWCA West Kent Young Women's Project works in parts of Kent where need is not immediately apparent. The project provides a range of information and support for women aged 11 to 30 who face issues such as pregnancy, concerns about sexual health, bullying, self-harm, eating disorders and exclusion from school. It also provides access to a range of formal and informal learning for women.
