- A curriculum review - that sounds familiar.
That might be down to the constant stream of "let's add cookery classes, or economic education, or something cultural to the school day" announcements. However, this time it's a proper review of the whole primary curriculum, led by Sir Jim Rose and overseen by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), which should complement recent changes to the secondary curriculum.
- And now it's primary schools' turn?
The Children's Plan announced the review in the context of personalised teaching and learning to aid progression. When Rose was asked to lead it, Children's Secretary Ed Balls laid out its parameters in a letter, which is now on the Department for Children, Schools and Families website and forms the basis of a written consultation exercise. In addition, the QCA is hosting a number of seminars, talking to experts and looking at evidence on how the curriculum can support development, enhance skills and improve educational attainment.
