Briefing: Crib sheet - Secondary curriculum

2 mins read
Following a review by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority the Government is consulting on secondary curriculum changes.

Is the Government having a rethink about the National Curriculum?

It's not about to disappear, but there are certainly some significantchanges in the pipeline. Having opened up the 14 to 19 curriculum, theGovernment has asked the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)to review the curriculum for 11- to 14-year-olds in England.

And what do they propose? This is a very wide-ranging consultationexercise.

It looks at altering the way in which teachers and schools plan anddeliver the curriculum, as well as changes to each subject area. The QCAhas even set up a web site to help people navigate the consultation. Thesite breaks the discussion down into three main sections: curriculumlenses, as in how you look at the curriculum; organising the curriculum;and curriculum subjects.
