Independent Review of Primary Curriculum - Recommendation 14(1) - Points of Entry into Reception Class.

Further to the recommendation made by Sir Jim Rose's Primary Curriculum Review that children should start school from the September after their fourth birthday, the Department for Children, Schools and Families is seeking views on implementing two changes to the School Admissions Code 2009.

According to the review, summer-born children are at greater risk of poor outcomes, and the government is now considering the benefits of offering more choice and flexibility in start dates for children beginning primary school. Changing the Admissions Code will enable parents to choose whether their child will take a full- or part-time place at primary school in the September after the child's fourth birthday.
