Positive activities: Extra funding for residential camps

Youth Work
The government is to invest an additional 4.5m in residential camps and arts and media projects for young people over the next three years.

Part of the cash will pay for community cohesion-themed camps, run byyouth hostel provider YHA, for young people from deprived areas.Discussions at the camps will include gang activity, managing rivalryand conflict between two areas, and celebrating diversity.

The money will also be used to provide media projects for young people, run by youth fund Mediabox.

The government said the projects will help "to occupy vulnerable youngpeople who may otherwise get involved in antisocial behaviour".

The YHA camps will build on the work of the Do it 4 Real summerprogramme.
