Positive activities: 10m to inspire young people

The government has launched a 10m fund to raise the aspirations of young people.

Deputy prime minister Harriet Harman launched the Inspiring Communities fund at the Vibe Youth Club in Dagenham. Fifteen projects have received a share of the money after submitting bids.

Barking and Dagenham will receive £450,000 for projects including a community radio station, gardening projects and a parental support service.

Harman said: "The funding will help younger people broaden their horizons, grow in confidence and learn about opportunities available to them."

Projects from Barnsley, Blackburn with Darwen, Bolton, Bradford, Bristol, Cumbria, Manchester, Norfolk, Rotherham, South Tyneside and Stoke-on-Trent were also chosen.
