He knows his child will need him and he wants to be a good dad, but doesn't know how.
We read headlines almost every week about teenage mums: how many - about 19,000 new mums in 2001, according to the Department of Health; how they have to adapt to a new life; and how being a parent affects their education and life chances. We don't hear nearly as much about young dads, although it is reasonably safe to assume that the fathers are also likely to be young.
