POLICY & PRACTICE: Soapbox - Give rural young people morestimulating activities

We have been aiming to give young people a chance to speak out for themselves.

By encouraging them to communicate effectively with authority we also give them the chance to make a change to their community life. We start off by using verbal communication to understand reasons behind attitudes young people have towards certain authorities and we then channel their attitude in a positive direction.

It is inevitable that young people who live in deprived areas get labelled as troublemakers. Youth has been made out to be a social problem by adults for at least 100 years, but have adults ever spent enough time trying to hear the other side of the story, and act on what is being addressed, especially in deprived areas of rural towns?
